BPJS Kesehatan stands for Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial Kesehatan (Social Security Healthcare Agency), an organization in Indonesia that manages the national health insurance program (Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional or JKN). Who is Required to Join BPJS Kesehatan?

  1. Formal Employees (Pekerja Penerima Upah or PPU):

    • Employees of private companies.
    • Civil servants.
    • Members of the military or police force.
    • Employees of state-owned or regional-owned enterprises (BUMN/BUMD).
  2. Self-Employed Workers (Pekerja Bukan Penerima Upah or PBPU):

    • Entrepreneurs, freelancers, or self-employed individuals.
  3. Non-Workers:

    • Individuals such as investors, landlords, or others.
  4. Contribution Assistance Recipients (Penerima Bantuan Iuran or PBI):

    • Low-income individuals whose premiums are subsidized by the government.
  5. Family Members of BPJS Participants:

    • Children (up to 3 children).
    • Spouse(s).

BPJS Kesehatan Calculation

1. Formal Employees (PPU):

  • The contribution is 5% of the employee's monthly salary, divided as follows:

    • 4% paid by the employer.
    • 1% paid by the employee.
  • Example: If an employee earns Rp7,000,000 per month, the BPJS is:

    • Total: 5% x Rp7,000,000 = Rp350,000.
    • Employer's portion: 4% x Rp7,000,000 = Rp280,000.
    • Employee's portion: 1% x Rp7,000,000 = Rp70,000.

2. Self-Employed Workers (PBPU) or Independent Participants:

Self-employed participants pay based on the selected class of service:

  • Class 1: Rp150,000 per person per month.
  • Class 2: Rp100,000 per person per month.
  • Class 3: Rp35,000 per person per month (subsidized by the government).
